Griffin nominees in the news

The winner of this year's Griffin Poetry Prize will be announced on Thursday, June 3, and many publications have been running stories on the nominees, who include Coach House poet Kate Hall (The Certainty Dream) .

From Barbara Carey, in the Toronto Star:

'nothing is certain in this quirky poetic inquiry into such heady issues as the nature of reality. As Hall puts it in one poem, “duplicity is always shining forth / from ordinary objects.” Elsewhere she writes of being the type who “jostles / for a peek at the small window / you can’t really see through” — a metaphor that perfectly captures the quixotic, disarming nature of this Montreal writer’s accomplished debut.'

From Paul Vermeersch, in The Globe and Mail:

'[Hall's] dreamscape is both current and welcoming, and she maintains a clarity of diction that keeps the peculiarity of her images in breathtaking focus. This is strong writing filled with delights.'

From Mark Medley, in The National Post:

'an excellent first collection ... Kate Hall is a poet of ambition; her poems think — she will accomplish much in the years to come'

Congratulations to all nominated poets!
