Uppal praises Mayr for her sensitivity to trauma and for her ability to create characters that are both complex and relatable.

'It’s [a book] that ought to be taught in our high schools,' says Uppal. 'Suzette Mayr is really adept at getting into the minds and hearts of teenagers. And not teenagers of her own time, the teenagers of today.'
