A Progressive Traditionalist wins Heritage Toronto Award!

Coach House Books is overjoyed to announce that Glenn McArthur's beautifully illustrated book on the work and life of John M. Lyle, A Progressive Traditionalist, has won the Heritage Toronto Award for book!

The announcement was made at the 2010 Heritage Toronto Awards & William Kilbourn Memorial Lecture at Koerner Hall last night (October 5, 2010), where author Glenn McArthur and Coach House 'head coach' Stan Bevington accepted the award. A Progressive Traditionalist charts the career of Lyle, the architect behind Toronto's Union Station, Royal Alexandra Theatre and dozens of other buildings in Toronto, Halifax, Calgary and Hamilton. His lifelong goal was to establish a uniquely Canadian architecture.

McArthur's book faced serious competition in the book category, including from Glenn Cochrane and Jean Cochrane's The Beach, Tim Morawetz's Art Deco Architecture in Toronto and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority's The Humber River.

Congratulations to Glenn McArthur!
