At a ceremony on the morning of Tuesday, October 16, the Canada Council for the Arts announced the names of the finalists for the 2007 Governor General’s Literary Awards, in English and in French, in the categories of fiction, non fiction, poetry, drama, children’s literature (text and illustration) and translation. <!--newline--><!--newline-->Among the nominated titles is Coach House book, Notebook of Roses and Civilization by Nicole Brossard, the translation of Cahier de roses & de civilisation, a finalist in the category of Translation (French to English). Congratulations to translators Robert Majzels and ErÃn Moure, and to Nicole Brossard, as well.<!--newline--><!--newline-->The translation judges had this to say about Notebook of Roses and Civilization: 'The poets Robert Majzels and ErÃn Moure have recreated in English the delicacy and range of Nicole Brossard’s poetry. Their translation evokes the search for beauty and the anger at human folly that underlie the work, and resonates with the sound and rhythm of the original.'<!--newline--><!--newline-->Winners are announced on Tuesday, November 27.
