Montreal Gazette interviews Gail Scott

Gail Scott recently spoke to the Montreal Gazette's Mike Boone about The Obituary and her Montreal neighbourhood, Mile End.

'You can safely buy bagels or souvlaki without encountering one, but Gail Scott says there are ghosts in Mile End.

Scott's new novel is called The Obituary. She will read from it and talk about the neighbourhood and its spirits Sunday afternoon at the Mile End library ...

"Mile End is really wonderful and can be quite complex," Scott says. "Many people have different values; people move all the time so there's constant change."

Scott's first neighbours were a couple from Czechoslovakia, a window-washer and a cleaning lady, who had arrived in Montreal on the day the stock market crashed in 1929. She currently lives among teachers, doctors and lawyers.'
