Guy Maddin wins $10,000 award for My Winnipeg

Last night, filmmaker and author of the forthcoming My Winnipeg companion (as well as 2003's From the Atelier Tovar) Guy Maddin was awarded the inaugural $10,000 Rogers Best Canadian Film Award, presented by the Toronto Film Critics Association.

Brian Johnson, association president and film critic for Maclean's magazine stated, 'My Winnipeg gleefully obliterates the line between fact and fiction, documentary and drama, between lucid memoir and fevered dream. It's an exquisitely Canadian film that has won praise from around the world, and we are pleased to add our voice to the acclaim with this inaugural prize.'

Congratulations, Guy!
