Emily Haines discusses Secret Carnival Workers with the MTV Book Club
'MTV Music Book Club: Who should read this book?
Emily Haines: I think it’s anyone who’s wary of bullshit poetry. He actually hated the word. He would always correct me and say, 'I don’t write poetry, I write poems.' It very much comes across in his work. It’s not formal embellishments on the subtleties of reality. It’s really clear and sometimes cruel little diamonds on language. So it’s for anyone who’s wary of bullshit and likes language. And has a sense of humor, because it is really funny. It’s definitely an all-ages book, in that it’s just x-rated enough to appeal to teenagers.'
