Coach House remembers Fletcher Starbuck

This January, Coach House remembers Fletcher Starbuck. He was the first editor of Image Nation, the influential photography magazine published by Coach House in the early 1970s. <!--newline--><!--newline-->The Vietnam draft brought Fletcher Starbuck to Toronto, where he worked as a photographer and toiled in the dark room at Coach House Press. He soon became great friends with many people in the Canadian photography community. <!--newline--><!--newline-->Image Nation, which featured no advertising and almost no text, spotlighted the photography of revolutionary new artists whose work had not yet received wide exposure. Photographers and artists like Barbara Astman, Maurice Fisher, Lisa Steele, Isobel Harry, Miklos Legrady, Sharon Smith, Ken Doll, Rodnee Werden, Isaac Applebaum, General Idea, Paul Till, Flavio Belli, Steven Cruise and David Hlynsky, who took over as editor of the magazine after Fletcher. <!--newline--><!--newline-->For a tribute to Fletcher Starbuck, who became more interested in ceramics after he returned to the United States, visit http://www.clayways.com/fletcherstarbuck.html.
