Coach House mourns the passing of Nancy Shaw

It is with sad hearts that the staff of Coach House Books announces the death of Nancy Shaw.<!--newline--><!--newline-->Award-winning poet, scholar, art critic, curator and scholar Nancy Shaw passed away in Vancouver this past weekend. Shaw had been battling cancer for several years, and left a full-time position at Wilfrid Laurier University in order to be close to her family in B.C.<!--newline--><!--newline-->Shaw, author of Scoptocratic (ECW Press) and co-author of Busted (with Catriona Strang; Coach House) received a PhD in Communications from McGill University in 2000. Her PhD thesis, "Modern Art, Media Pedagogy, Cultural Citizenship: The Museum Of Modern Art's Television Project, 1952-1955" was judged as a superior work. She was most recently engaged in new research on McLuhan and the visual arts. Nancy will be missed by a great many people.<!--newline--><!--newline-->A service for Nancy Shaw will be held in Vancouver at St.Andrew's-Wesley Church, 1022 Nelson Ave. at 1:00 PM, Saturday April 21, 2007. Everyone is welcome. The family asks that donations be made to the BC Cancer Fund in place of flowers. <!--newline-->
