Coach House congratulates Premier's Award recipient Ron Mann

Documentary filmmaker Ron Mann received the Premier's Award for Excellence in the Arts (Individual Artist category) at a ceremony last night, June 23, 2009. Coach House congratulates Mann, a friend of the press whose groundbreaking 1982 film Poetry in Motion showcased a younger generation of Canadian poets (Michael Ondaatje, Christopher Dewdney, The Four Horsemen — all closely involved with Coach House) alongside beat generation Americans such as Allen Ginsberg, William S. Burroughs, Charles Bukowski, Amiri Baraka, Anne Waldman and others.

Other films by Ronn Mann include Comic Book Confidential (1988), Twist (1992), Tales of Rat Fink (2006) and Know Your Mushrooms (2008).

This year's award for Arts Organization went to Toronto Artscape Inc., an honour Coach House was awarded in 2008.
