Coach House authors nominated for National Magazine Awards

The finalists for the National Magazine Awards have been announced, and Coach House authors Sylvia Legris, Guy Maddin and Sina Queyras are among the many fine Canadian writers to make the list.

In the fiction category, Maddin's 'My (Other) Winnipeg: Excerpts from a Phantom Film' was selected from Border Crossings Magazine. (Many delightful and bizarre excerpts from the film are also now available in the My Winnipeg companion book.)

In the poetry category, Sina Queyras's 'Her Dreams of the Expressway' was selected from the Malahat Review, where it was published shortly before appearing this spring in Queyras's new collection, Expressway. Griffin Prize-winning poet Silvia Legris (Nerve Squall) was nominated for her 'Three "Lore" Poems,' which appeared in Prairie Fire.

Congratulations to all the nominees! The winners will be announced at the NMA gala on June 5, 2009 at the Carlu in Toronto. Tickets, as well as the full shortlist, are available at http://www.magazine-awards.com/index.cfm/ci_id/1235/la_id/1.
