Celebrate Steve Reinke

Steve Reinke, celebrated video artist and author of Everybody Loves Nothing was recently awarded the 2006 Bell Canada Award in Video Art – an annual honour recognizing outstanding achievement in the genre – and, fittingly, January will host a few Reinke celebrations. <!--newline--><!--newline-->The prize presentation of the 2006 Bell Canada Award in Video Art will be held at Birch Libralato, located at 129 Tecumseth Street in Toronto (one block west of Bathurst, one block south of Queen) on Saturday, January 13, 2007 between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.<!--newline--><!--newline-->A few days later, Cinematheque Ontario is presents Steve Reinke in Person!: Final Thoughts. Come celebrate Art Metropole's new DVD launch of Steve Reinke's wildly influential and maddeningly intelligent oeuvre. The evening will be the first-ever screening of Reinke's entire ongoing series, Final Thoughts, an archive of fragments – texts, songs, stills, and footage shot, digitally created and found – that will be arranged into different forms, only to be completed at the moment of Reinke's death. The event also features screenings of Anthology of American Folk Song, Ask The Insects and The Mendi. Steve Reinke in Person!: Final Thoughts screens January 17 at 6:30 p.m.<!--newline--><!--newline-->The screening will be followed by a DVD launch and reception at Art Metropole (788 King St. West).<!--newline-->
