Carla Gunn discusses Amphibian with the Post

The Afterword books blog talks to Carla Gunn about eco-anxiety and the process of writing Amphibian's nine-year-old narrator, Phin.

'...I talk with my kids about environmental things and we do kind of weird things from their peers' perspectives — like compost and dig up our front yard and put a garden in and things like that. So I thought, I'm sympathetic to that, and I understand that need to do something, and so I thought, 'What would happen if a child like my son, who was nine at the time, the same age as Phin, was met with resistance?' You know, the adults in his life really weren't all that interested in helping him live according to his conscience ... That's where Amphibian came from, that where's Phin came from.'
