Alan Reed interviewed by See Magazine

Alan Reed recently returned to his hometown of Edmonton to launch Isobel and Emile, his first novel. While there, he spoke with See Magazine about the book.

'Reed describes his writing style as “stripped down,” but with a purpose.

“I’ve taken Isobel and Emile,” reveals Reed, “and dropped them into situations where they don’t fit. They don’t feel connected. It was appropriate to do the same thing with the language I was using to guide them through it.”

The novel is stark and simplistic, but in form only. The short sentences are bursting with pain. The repetition of mundane life is heavy with emotion. The dialogue is routine, carefully avoiding the real issues.'
