May 18 | Tribute to Jones

May 18, 2011 - 7:30pm - 11:00pm

'I had always thought that Toronto's forgetting of the lovely poet Gwendolyn MacEwen was the city's most depressing literary oversight. I thought that until I began reading the work of Daniel Jones, a Toronto poet and novelist who killed himself in 1994.' — Amy Lavender Harris, Imagining Toronto

On Wednesday, May 18, Coach House Books and Three O'Clock Press celebrate the writing and legacy of Jones with a tribute night. Launching new editions of two of Jones's most influential works, his sole poetry collection, The Brave Never Write Poetry, and his posthumously published novel, 1978, the evening will feature readings from die-hard Jones fans among the Canadian literary community, and will be followed by music from Jones's era — Toronto and Hamilton punk from the late 70s and early 80s.
