A Note on the Text

These words, with few exceptions, were initially written using a series of Pilot Hi-Tecpoint V5 Extra Fine markers with an anti-gravity feature that enabled the author to write while supine. Furthermore, in accordance with a procedure suggested by the Hockey Ching, the shafts were spooled with half-inch electrical tape. The text from 1996 and 1997 was subsequently processed in WordPerfect 5.1 on a generic 286 PC, the gift of Swami McGregorananda. The text from 1998 was processed in Microsoft Word 6.0 on a PowerMac G3 desktop coupled with a Vu-Sonic 17PS low-radiation monitor. Supplementary photo-emission filtering treatments were provided by a Polarizer Cone with Lahkovsky Coil, a pair of clip-on Modo sunglasses, A BT5 cranial electrostimulator, and a cutting from a Cornell Tradine white cotton nightgown. All subsequent treatments and processes were performed on equipment owned and operated by Coach House Books. The writing of Spiral Agitator, apart from the foretext, was completed on October 23rd, 1998.

Terence McKenna, author of True Hallucinations and other favourite books of mine, left this world on April 3, 2000. I had dedicated this text to him during the illness that preceded his death, but now more than ever it seems a small tribute to pay someone whose work has meant so much to me. I encourage you to explore Terence’s ideas – through the many books and recordings that bear his name, and through association with the borderless community that recognizes him as a great friend and visionary mentor. To those of us who have come to love Terence, personally or through his creations, his voice will remain to inspire us through every phase of the timewave.
