First Impression of a Double Rainbow

You saw a double rainbow for the first time
and I wonder why reflection   a constant
is rarely in view
the science opposing spectra

reaches no conclusion

sometime before then
careless and strong
we find ourselves climbing
the gap between summit and space
cutting our packs loose

fear drops a thousand spinning feet

after descent:
clear afternoon
the moon rests
at the peak of Mount Temple
sound erodes
waterfall    feather
a measure of time so small
it has to seem like forever

for anyone to remember

sometimes
a child wishing a balloon
I know the moon to filter through
a cool cloth against fever
I am here now
               close your eyes
