The Same Spring

This morning as I started out at a fast walk
and felt the sun through the back of my blouse
and smelled the Balm of Gilead
from the firs lining the road,
three men gathering leaves on the golf course
stopped to watch me pass, leaning on their rakes,
and it occurred to me:

This is the same spring Shakespeare wrote about.
